HOMETIP FROM HOUSELOGIC
Home ownership strengthens communities.
To promote responsible ownership:
+ Learn about government programs that lower the cost of entry for first-time buyers.
+ Educate first-timers—or direct them to a counseling program. Harvard University’s Joint Center for Housing Studies found that loan delinquencies fell 13 percent with home ownership counseling.
+ Support groups, such as Habitat for Humanity International, that give lower-income buyers a boost onto the home ownership ladder.

The Home Ownership Matters campaign includes appeals to consumers and federal official. NAR is reaching consumers through the nationally syndicated Real Estate Today radio show; HouseLogic.com where they can download, “The Field Guide to the Benefits of Home Ownership” (inset); and national print, TV and radio ads that began running Jan. 17. In December, NAR leaders issued two Calls for Action asking members to remind Congress members about their commitment to home ownership and the mortgage interest deduction.
NAR launched its Home Ownership Matters Campaign at the REALTORS® Conference & Expo in November, distributing buttons, banners, and handouts with talking points on the value of home ownership.
